Kelly and Case had the most sincere and heartfelt wedding day at the beautiful Black Sheep Shelter in South Haven. I was honored to document their day. Here are some reflections from the bride Kelly:
“It was really important that each aspect of the day reflected who we are individually and as a couple, so we asked a lot of ‘why’s’ during the process of planning. This helped eliminate a lot of ‘shoulds’ and left us with a day that felt really meaningful. A couple of high priorities were nature, community, authenticity, and abundant food and wine.
We live near Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, running the trails there almost daily, and exploring outside of the city when we can. Finding Black Sheep Shelter, a beautiful farm in South Haven, felt like the perfect fit. The open-air venue allowed us to be outside while giving our guests reprieve from the cool October weather. We also valued their zero-waste and thoughtful approach to the property.
We held our ceremony outside, surrounded by 100 of our closest family and friends arranged in concentric hexagons. Friends of ours had gotten married in concentric circles the summer prior, and we thought it was such a beautiful way to involve guests intimately in the ceremony. When Case picked his wedding band, he chose a hexagon, which symbolizes balance and union. It’s found all over nature - a storm on Saturn, a turtle’s back, even at a molecular level. We knew then that we would have everyone seated in concentric hexagons for the ceremony.
Another important piece for us was the dinner party. We care deeply about where our food comes from and about supporting small businesses, so it was a joy to bring in vendors like Aperitivo GR, Art of the Table, Salt of the Earth, and RISE Authentic Baking Co to help us pull off our gracious living hour and dinner.
The joy of getting our wedding pictures back was two-fold: reliving the day and getting to experience pieces of the day that happened without us. The day we’d been planning for months and months went so fast, and it is such a treasure to be able to go back through these pictures and take it moment by moment, as slowly as we’d like."
